Zzzahara w/ YES BABY

Lost Lake Presents Zzzahara with Yes Baby on Sunday, March 17 — For most of their life, Zzzahara has been looking backward. Raised in LA’s Highland Park neighborhood, their debut album, Liminal Spaces, confronted the changes the community has endured since Zzzahara’s childhood. That sense of loss, coupled with the persistent memories of a painful coming-of-age, led to many late night parties and an avoidant relationship with self-reflection. Liminal Spaces chronicled that ache, but these days, Zzzahara isn’t looking backward much – they’re not even looking forward. They’re just trying to be here, in the moment, as present as possible. Zzzahara’s sophomore album, Tender, released via Lex Records, documents a period of transition following a devastating breakup. Instead of crumbling, Zzzahara began to look inward by meditating and practicing mindfulness. “If I had to describe what my life is like now, I’d say ‘consistent.’ I’m trying to be consistent with everything I do.” Consistency requires tenderness, a willingness to cradle the soft parts of yourself that often go unnoticed. To make Tender, they locked themselves in their studio and subsisted on cold brew for nine to ten hours a day. To most, this sounds nightmarish, but the monastic experience gave Zzzahara a sense of total control over the output. “I learned so much making my first record and I wanted this one to prove that.” Tender thrives on the intimacy created in a home studio. While Tender can largely be considered a guitar rock album, opener “Dust” is a laconic song reminiscent of a mournful 1950s waltz, while the ebullient lead single “Kensington” sounds-off to the sparkling synths employed by the Cure. The immediacy of these pop songs doesn’t detract from the sincerity of Zzzahara’s lyrics. The dazzling guitar part heard on “Girls on SSRIs Don’t Cry” might hide the song’s pathos momentarily, but the chorus is an open-hearted plea to an ex. As its title purports, Tender is a sincere album, but that doesn’t stop Zzzahara, as they put it, letting their “asshole side loose.” It’s easy to recognize the faults in others, less so in yourself. On Tender, Zzzahara is unafraid of the world seeing theirs. YES BABY is spectral pastoral dreampop. An unhinged affection defines their sultry, aching, and dissonant shoegaze sound. Their dreampop wash will overpower and transport you to a haunted small town through a tunnel of love. Will you ever return?   – 16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian

Night Cap w/ Savanna Leigh

Lost Lake Presents Night Cap with Savanna Leigh on Thursday, March 21st. Night Cap is an indie rock band, born and raised in Austin, Texas. Soon after the band’s formation in 2017, they became known for their now signature sound – rife with emotional builds, feel-good melodies, and just the right touch of nostalgia – as their debut single ‘Everest’ quickly amassed over 1 million streams. What has followed has been festival plays at Austin City Limits Luck Reunion, and Floatfest, an Audiotree recording in Chicago, dozens of sold out shows across Night Cap’s native Texas, and a slew of releases, highlighted by recent singles ‘Sentimental’, ‘Eileen’, and ‘Glimpse’, that have racked up 7 million streams across the band’s catalogue. With their dynamic style and engaging live performances, Night Cap has developed a knack for winning over audiences across Texas and beyond. The pairing of Ryan King and Jake Bomgaars, the band’s guitar-wielding vocalist duo, demonstrate a harmonic compatibility that feels as natural as it is captivating, delivering thoughtful lyricism and snappy choruses alongside bandmates Alex Alfonso (bass), Adrian Ayala (keys), and Stijn Dobbelaere (drums). After a run of collaborations and performances alongside heavy-hitting acts such as Dayglow, Briston Maroney, slenderbodies, Wilderado, Mt. Joy, and most recently, Krooked Kings, Night Cap has turned all focus towards the completion of their debut album, set for release in spring 2024.   – 16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian

Gustaf w/ Blööd Ôath + Mossgatherers

Lost Lake Presents Gustaf with Blööd Ôath and Mossgatherers on Saturday, May 11 — Gustaf began without a name or, for that matter, many official members. In 2018, after someone’s tour bound for South by Southwest collapsed, Brooklyn musician Tarra Thiessen suddenly had a van headed to South by Southwest with no band in it. When she told friend Lydia Gammill about the conundrum, Gammill jumped at the chance to get in a now-empty van and head south with some songs she’d demoed. Friends were quickly recruited. Caution was instantly abandoned. And Gustaf—a devil-may-care quintet with the improvisational elan of their city’s No Wave forebears—was born.  During the next three years, four of the five folks who had climbed in that van without much notice, Gammill and Thiessen included, continued to climb atop any stage or into any living room space that would have them. Their charisma was clear in their slashing riffs, their call-and-response vocals, and their tricky drum-and-percussion tandem. When they released their thrilling debut, 2021’s Audio Drag for Ego Slobs, NME dubbed them one of New York’s most exciting new names—not bad for a band that, three years earlier, didn’t have one. Beck soon touted them as his new favorite group and remixed a track; they soon toured with the likes of Idles, Sleaford Mods, and Yard Act.That first album, like Gustaf’s shows, was kinetic, fun, and loose, an invitation to shake off the absurdity of existence. Of course, a record with a handle like Audio Drag for Ego Slobs couldn’t be that straightforward or simple. Rather, Gammill was building a world inside of Gustaf, where a character—that being the previously mentioned Ego Slob—struggled to deal with their surroundings, to behave in a way where their emotions and actions didn’t alienate most everyone. But now, on Gustaf’s second album, the endlessly fascinating Package Pt. 2, that Ego Slob turns inward, wondering what they might change to make life, relationships, and love a little more manageable. If that sounds heavy or heady, well, it is; existence is like that, you know? But, importantly, Gustaf never sound heavy, choosing instead to spring forward like some dizzying post-punk dream, moving with the same irrepressible energy that made them.Gustaf has long had a credo, reflecting their impromptu origins: There are no mistakes, just new arrangements. In conversation, it is something that everyone in the band—the aforementioned Gammill and percussionist Thiessen, plus drummer Melissa Lucciola, bassist Tine Hill, and guitarist Vram Kherlopian—readily acknowledges. That is an easy edict for a debut, of course, when no one has expectations. But it’s more challenging when people are paying attention, when a band has a sense of self and an album to build upon. So in February 2022, before a spate of tours, Gustaf headed into Brooklyn’s Studio G, putting down first takes that they could warp or try again when they returned from the road. They eventually did just that alongside Erin Tonkon, a friend who had worked on David Bowie’s Blackstar and with Richard Hell. Gustaf could now choose what sounded best, a process meant to ensure that the final version wasn’t too stiff, that it moved with the same elasticity that Gustaf has always treasured. – 16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian

Me Like Bees w/ Heather Hunt + Welcome Back.

Lost Lake Presents Me Like Bees with Heather Hunt and Welcome Back. on Tuesday, March 12 –“They surrounded me like bees; they went out like a fire among thorns; in the name of the Lord I cut them off!” Psalm 118:12No, this isn’t a Sam Jackson quote from the latest grindhouse inspired Tarantino film; it’s the impetus behind the Joplin, MO band Me Like Bees.Formed on the heels of the 2000s indie rock scene, Missouri-based indie rock band, Me Like Bees, was created by college dropout, Pete Burton and former gas station clerk, Luke Sheafer in 2009. The pair met while playing high school football together in Kansas; only to lose touch and serendipitously end up at the same college town in southwest Missouri several years later. The duo shared a mutual affinity for the music of the aughts. Bands like The Strokes, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, andFranz Ferdinand, would serve as the catalyst to the danceable, guitar- driven rock that Me Like Bees would become known for, all of which are everpresent on their newly released sophomore full-length album — Disco Two Step.Notably, the band released their first full-length album, The Ides, via Loveway Records in 2013. In 2014, they won first prize at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in Hollywood, CA — beating out 20,000 other artists, and securing a coveted spot on the Vans Warped Tour. With their undeniable trajectory of growth, the group knew the next step was to make more music. They got the chance to work alongside Goldfinger frontman and well known producer, John Feldmann for the There Will Be Time EP (2016), and they didn’t stop there. In 2018, they partnered with Image Comics and artist Jeremy Haun for the release of their graphic novel-inspired EP, Songs FromThe Realm. With a plethora of years in the game and knowing their way around the studio – Me Like Bees is making sure they’ve got your attention.- 16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian
