The Cactus Blossoms w/ Lady Apple Tree
105.5 The Colorado Sound presents The Cactus Blossoms with Lady Apple Tree on Saturday, April 19th. At its best, harmony duo singing can transform simple math into a magic trick. One plus one, instead of equaling two, suddenly yields an unexpected third thing. An upper-case ONE. A universal hum. A deep vibration that encompasses two different points of view. On their latest release, Every Time I Think About You, brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum, aka The Cactus Blossoms, once again prove themselves to be among the most adept – and distinctive – modern practitioners of that magic. But like any great magician, The Cactus Blossoms can’t – or won’t – fully explain the illusion they create. “Harmonies are a big part of our sound, but in some ways they’re the part we focus on the least,” says Burkum. “We put most of our attention and energy into the songs themselves and then the harmonies just happen.” There’s all kinds of magic happening on Every Time I Think About You, a record that sounds more like a band than any other in the Cactus Blossoms discography, thanks to contributions from Jeremy Hanson (drums), Jacob Hanson (guitar) and Phillip Hicks (bass). “There She Goes” casts its romantic regret against a danceable bop beat, and the title track is a heart-wrencher about loss and letting go. “Even if you don’t set out to write songs with a theme in mind it seems like one usually presents itself,” says Torrey. “This record keeps returning to the idea of ‘moving on’ — from one place to another, from people and situations that bring you down, from loss and grief.” All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final. West 22nd w/ Dipsea Flower
Lost Lake Presents West 22nd with Dipsea Flower on Friday, June 6th. West 22nd is a rising indie rock band hailing from Austin, Texas, composed of lead vocalist Logan Madsen, rhythm guitarist Gabe Acevedo, lead guitarist Jeremy Ancheta, and bassist Jet Beck. Since their formation in 2022, the band has been making waves in the local music scene, with their name paying homage to West 22nd Street in Austin’s West Campus, where their journey began. Known for their high-energy performances and compelling songwriting, West 22nd quickly built a loyal following. Their breakout single, “Sunburns,” has amassed over two million streams on Spotify, cementing their reputation as a band on the rise. In 2024, they achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first band entirely composed of current University of Texas students to perform at the prestigious Austin City Limits Music Festival. This historic moment marked a turning point in their career, showcasing their growing influence in the indie music scene. Despite the demands of academic life, West 22nd has managed to maintain an impressive performance schedule, playing over 100 shows, including notable appearances at South by Southwest (SXSW), Hullabaloo, and Forty Acres Fest. Their debut EP, “All the Way Home,” released in August 2023, highlights their musical evolution and has received critical acclaim for its heartfelt lyrics and polished sound. With an expanding fan base, West 22nd has taken their music beyond Austin, performing in major cities such as Los Angeles, Denver, Nashville, and Atlanta. Their unwavering commitment to their craft, combined with their ability to create an intimate connection with audiences, has solidified their status as an emerging force in the indie rock world. Jake Xerxes Fussell w/ Patrick Dethlefs
Lost Lake Presents Jake Xerxes Fussell with Patrick Dethlefs on Wednesday, March 26th. Jake Xerxes Fussell is a singer, guitarist, and composer based in Durham, NC. His intuitive creative process often draws from traditional music and archival field recordings – incorporating elements of songs from the past into new work. He is, according to Ann Powers of NPR, “maybe the leading interpreter of American folk music right now…” Fussell’s most recent album When I’m Called was released to critical acclaim by Fat Possum Records in the summer of 2024. The album was produced by James Elkington and features Blake Mills (guitars), Ben Whiteley (bass), and Joe Westerlund (drums), along with additional vocals from Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb. Fussell and Elkington also wrote and recorded the music for Rebuilding, a new feature film directed by Max Walker-Silverman that is set to premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. “Fussell’s music often comes with complex citations; he is a folksinger in the truest sense, collecting ideas and melodies and lyrics from distant and disparate traditions, looking for the things that unite us in our humanity.” – The New Yorker “(Fussell) is one of the great magpies of American song, collecting forgotten, tarnished gems with a folklorist’s zeal… his renditions aren’t so much cover versions as composites…” – The Guardian All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final.
