Lost Lake Presents Kid Smoko with + Ultra and May Be Fern on Friday, August 19 — In 2019, five childhood friends from New Jersey came together to form Kid Smoko, a genre blending band that combines elements of indie, pop, hip-hop, punk, and electronic music. Through releasing breakthrough left-pop singles such as “Tommy Boy”, “Come With Me” and “Can’t Hear” they cultivated a growing fanbase and started performing across the country, recently playing sold out shows at Elsewhere (Brooklyn), Philamoca (Philly), and The Venice West (Los Angeles). The sound and style of the band’s music is a product of the eclectic and varying tastes of each 5 members, and no two songs of theirs can be put in the same box. Dreamgirl w/ CD GHOST

Lost Lake Presents Dreamgirl with CD GHOST on Sunday, August 21 —  CD GHOST Cody Han and Blake Dimas produce a danceable brand of surrealist dream pop under the name CD Ghost. The pair have journeyed from the lo-fi glaze of their debut EP “Ghost Hunting” to the richly ethereal dream bops of subsequent EPs “Here It Comes Again” and “Dreams We Share”, with tracks such as “Undercurrent” and “Roll the Dice” earning them attention online. Now the group joins Born Losers Records for their first LP-length project, “Night Music”. The project sees the duo expand their watercolor dream pop palette toward the edges and intersections of dark wave, avant-pop, and shoegaze. Written during a pandemic while the duo was split between L.A. and Beijing, the project reflects on solitude, change, and the passage of time. Like their previous work, the LP is full of hook-laden, beat-driven lamentations that find a way to stick in your ears and make their home. This time however, the tracklist contains both the group’s darkest and catchiest songs to date. The LP was conceived as an ode to night, inspired by the musical tradition of nocturnes – songs written about or for the night. Experiencing the LP is akin to quietly sitting through the night, observing its changes and watching the rise of the moon as cool air begins to surround. “Night Music” is out 11/11/22 on Born Losers Records. – 16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian

Grace Ives w/ Super Bummer

Lost Lake Presents Grace Ives with Super Bummer on Friday, September 16th–16+, under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian Janky Star is the new album from pop-polymath Grace Ives, following 2019’s critically acclaimed 2nd. After writing and doing initial production on this collection of songs at home in Brooklyn, Ives teamed up with co-producer Justin Raisen (Yves Tumor, Charli XCX) in Los Angeles to consummate Janky Star’s expanded vision.  Still only in her mid-twenties, the record sounds like Ives grown up: through the ten sophisti-pop tracks, there’s more deliberate space that lends breathing room to her most vulnerable, exposed songwriting yet.  Throughout songs that are still full of punchy synths and unconventional rhythms, Ives uses the quiet spaces in between to honestly reflect on her ongoing struggle to find stability and happiness.  Touching on sobriety, overdoses, and the desire to escape from the realities of modern life, the record also focuses on the rewards of slowing down, and finally finding a home for herself in the ever-shifting world. Ives’ penchant for poetic musings on specific details and references has always been part of her enchantment, but on Janky Star she finally settles into an image that’s entirely her own.   “Everyone has a shitty star tattoo/stick n poke, that’s never perfect, or is rough around the edges. A beautiful thing to think about is that stars on earth look like blobs but in space really defined structures,” she explains.  This fully-formed version of herself is the album’s guiding light, and sees Ives take confident steps towards deciding her own fate.  Both self-possessed and yearning, insular and affecting, Janky Star’s effervescent daydreams are ultimately triumphant, where ultimately the very act of surviving can be the biggest achievement of all.
